Skangas passes 2,400 days without injuries and accidents

Since we started LNG operations in Risavika in October 2010 and the successive building and operation of our LNG infrastructure in North West Europe until today, we have not had any injuries nor accidents. Over this time period we have successfully delivered almost 1.4 million tons (20 TWh) LNG to industry and marine customers by pipe, truck or ship. This strong safety performance shows that small-scale LNG suppliers have established same robust safety standards as the global LNG industry.

Skangas wins framework agreement for LNG supply

The leading LNG player in the Nordic countries, Skangas has won the framework agreement in a competitive tendering process organized by the Finnish government central purchasing body, Hansel Ltd, and will supply the cleanest marine fuel, liquefied natural gas (LNG), to the offshore patrol vessel Turva and icebreaker Polaris for 2017–2019. The framework agreement has two years additional option. LNG as a marine fuel meets the current as well as future emission limits and has very high energy content.

Skangas’ new LNG bunker vessel, Coralius, arrives in June 2017. Her main operation area will be from the Kiel Canal to mid Norway, including part of the North Sea. Being flexible in terms of location, she can deliver Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) both in ports and at sea.

Industrial Park in Harjavalta, Finland, switches to cleaner energy

Skangas will supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Suomen Teollisuuden Energiapalvelut – STEP Oy, an energy company operating in Suurteollisuuspuisto Industrial Park, Harjavalta, Finland. In the future, the STEP power plant will generate an annual total of around 600 GWh of steam energy required by Norilsk Nickel Harjavalta Oy (NNH) and Boliden Harjavalta Oy. In January 2017 an investment decision was made by STEP to fully replace the use of heavy fuel oil from the beginning of 2018 onwards. This decision will reduce the rate of emissions from Suurteollisuuspuisto Industrial Park.

Delivery of LNG to Stormossen

Skangas signed a contract with Stormossen, Finland, to deliver liquefied natural gas (LNG) to their first biogas station in Vaasa. Stormossen offer fuel both for the public transportation sector and for passenger cars. Skangas’ flexible delivery of LNG will form the back-up and secure Stormossen’s supply of biogas to their customers.

Skangas bunkered Megastar

Tallink’s new LNG-powered fast ferry Megastar was bunkered by Skangas from a road tanker at Helsinki’s West Harbour on January 25, 2017. Megastar will start operating on the Helsinki-Tallinn route this weekend, powered by the cleanest marine fuel – liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The Finnish icebreaking service company Arctia’s newest icebreaker, IB Polaris, set out from Katajanokka, Helsinki, for icebreaking duty in the Bothnian Bay and arrived for bunkering at the Skangas LNG terminal in Pori on January 10, 2017.

Skangas make first small scale LNG reload at Klaipeda in Lithuania

December, 2016 Skangas signed an agreement with Statoil, the Norwegian oil and gas company, for a small-scale LNG reload to take place at the Klaipeda LNG Terminal in Lithuania. The reload will take place early January 2017. This will be the first reload conducted at the terminal and it is the first time Skangas source LNG from Statoil.

As part of its effort to find innovative ways to produce renewable district heat, Hafslund Heat is now testing liquefied bio gas (LBG) as an alternative to liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the Haraldrud heating plant. The plant received the first 20 tonnes of natural gas on Wednesday.

The Tallink group chose Skangas as one of their LNG partners for the new LNG driven fast ferry Megastar. The two companies signed a contract securing the ferry liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel in Helsinki. The Megastar starts her route between Helsinki and Tallinn next year.

First ship load of LNG to Finland arrives at Skangas

Sunday July 10th 2016 the first shipload of liquefied natural gas (LNG) arrived at the Gasum’s subsidiary Skangas LNG terminal in Pori. To be completed in August, the facility is the first LNG import terminal in Finland. LNG was brought with the time chartered Skangas Coral Energy carrier from the North West Europe. The Skangas LNG terminal is undergoing commissioning, and commercial deliveries to customers will begin in September. LNG will help diversify the Finnish energy market as it enables deliveries to industrial operators outside the gas pipeline network as well as for maritime and heavy-duty road transport.

Development of Ship-to-Ship Bunkering Solution on Track

Starting to construct the natural gas pipeline

Skangas is having a natural gas pipeline build from the LNG terminal under construction in Tahkoluoto, Pori, Finland, to Kaanaa industrial park. The pipeline construction project begins in early August 2015, and the connection pipeline is due for commissioning in May 2016.

New timecharter LNG vessel for Gasum

Gasum and Anthony Veder have signed an agreement for a long term timecharter of a new ICE Class 1A Super LNG carrier. The 18,000 cbm vessel will be built at German shipyard Neptun Werft and delivered at the last quarter of 2017.
